As part of new climate change work focusing on Central Asia, the International Food Policy Research Institute led a week-long training workshop on the International Model for Policy Analysis of Agricultural Commodities and Trade (IMPACT) at Lomonosov Moscow State University from January 26-31, 2015. The training was provided in collaboration with the Eurasian Center for Food Security (ECFS) at Moscow State University, the World Bank, and the Global Futures and Strategic Foresight project. IFPRI’s IMPACT modeling team trained 16 participants in scenario development and analysis using the IMPACT scenario environment, and the economic theory behind IMPACT. The participants came from a variety of institutions including Moscow State University, universities and research institutions in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as two GFSF partner centers (International Livestock Research Institute, and Centro Internacional de Papa).
This capacity-building activity was undertaken in response to local demands to expand IMPACT modeling capacity in Central Asia, and to build on ongoing regional climate change research being done by IFPRI. To this end, several additional seminars were given to foster greater understanding and collaboration between IFPRI, Moscow State University, and participants from Central Asia.
More details about the training workshop can be found at the workshop announcement hosted by ReSaKSS Asia and in the Training Workshop Report [URL link] prepared by Shahnila Islam.
